Alabama
is one of the most ecologically diverse states in the country.
The natural beauty of the southern pine forests, swamps, rivers
and coast is impressive. From the Appalachian Mountains and the
Cumberland Plateau in the north to the Gulf of Mexico in the south,
the state spans a remarkable number of distinct ecosystems. Much
of the southern end of the state was a longleaf pine forest, including
most of Baldwin County. This area is dominated by the Mobile-Tensaw
Delta, local blackwater streams, rolling pine forests, and the
coastal zone.
